Terms & Conditions

Last updated: June 2026

About these terms

These terms apply when you use the Yours Truly Books website to create, preview, and order a personalised book. By using the service or placing an order, you agree to these terms. These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales and your statutory rights as a UK consumer are not affected.

The service

Yours Truly Books uses artificial intelligence to generate a personalised children's story based on details you provide. Printed books are fulfilled and shipped by our third-party printing partner, Lulu.

Because each book is uniquely generated and printed on demand, we cannot guarantee identical results across multiple orders with the same inputs. The AI-generated story and illustrations are created algorithmically and may vary.

Free sample and £0.50 unlock

We offer a free AI-generated story sample so you can assess the quality and style before committing to a purchase. The sample shows a portion of the story text.

To unlock the complete 32-page illustrated book, a one-off payment of £0.50 is required. This payment covers the cost of AI generation and is non-refundable once the full book has been generated, as the digital content is created immediately upon payment. This does not affect your right to a refund on any subsequent print order.

By paying the £0.50 unlock fee you expressly consent to immediate delivery of the digital content and acknowledge that your right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 ceases at that point.

Ordering and payment

Right to cancel (print orders)

Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 you ordinarily have 14 days to cancel an order. However, because printed books are personalised and manufactured specifically for you, they are exempt from this cancellation right once printing has begun.

By placing a print order you acknowledge and agree that production begins immediately after payment and that the right to cancel does not apply once your book enters production.

This does not affect your rights if the book arrives damaged, defective, or fails to arrive — see the Returns section below.

Delivery

Books are printed on demand and shipped by Lulu. Estimated delivery times from order confirmation:

These are estimates and may vary. We are not responsible for delays caused by couriers, customs, or events outside our control.

Returns and refunds

Because each book is personalised and printed specifically for you, we do not accept returns or offer refunds unless:

If any of these apply, email hello@yours-truly-books.com with your order details and photos of any defect. We will arrange a reprint or refund at our discretion.

We do not offer refunds on the basis of the AI-generated story content, as a preview is provided before any print purchase and the content is generated from details you supply.

Your content and prohibited inputs

By providing details about a child or other person, you confirm you have the right to share that information and to use it to generate a personalised book.

You must not input, request, or attempt to generate content that:

We reserve the right to refuse or cancel any order where prohibited inputs are detected. If an order is cancelled on these grounds no refund will be issued for the £0.50 unlock fee.

AI-generated content and intellectual property

The story text and illustrations in your book are generated by artificial intelligence. Under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 (s.9(3)), the copyright in computer-generated works belongs to the person who makes the necessary arrangements for its creation. Yours Truly Books owns the underlying system; you own the personalised output for personal, non-commercial use.

The generated book content (story and illustrations) is licensed to you for personal use only. You may not resell, reproduce commercially, or distribute the content without our written permission.

The Yours Truly Books name, logo, website, and software are our intellectual property and may not be used without our consent.

Data and privacy

We collect and process personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Personal details you provide to generate a book (such as a child's name, age, and appearance) are used solely to create your book and are not shared with third parties except as necessary to fulfil your order (Stripe for payment, Lulu for printing).

We retain order data for up to 3 years for legal and accounting purposes.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our liability for any claim arising from your use of this service is limited to the amount you paid for your order. We are not liable for indirect, consequential, or special damages. This does not affect your statutory rights as a consumer.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The version on this page applies to orders placed on or after the date shown at the top. Continued use of the service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
